Fee Justice Now campaign

In March we launched our campaign for Fee Justice Now. This campaign called for fee compensation for the ‘class of covid’ in recognition that the experience students had received this year was not what they were promised over the Summer. We led a range of actions on a local, national, and international scale including: writing to MPs, encouraging students to write to Hugh Brady Vice Chancellor, encouraging international students to write to their embassies, writing an open letter with 20 other SUs to the Competition and Markets Authority, and much more!

You can take a look at all of our actions, and find out more about our campaign on the Bristol SU website.

Climate Emergency Day of Action

In February we held our first ever Climate Emergency Day of Action. This day was filled with events, panels, campaigns, and talks from high profile speakers which educated and empowered students to take action for the climate. Highlights included our virtual People’s Assembly for the Climate, and speakers including Mya Rose Craig, Ed Milliband, and Marvin Rees. Catch up on the day here.

Personal Tutoring

David (UG Education), Leah (PG Education), Ruth (Student Living), and Jason (Equality, Liberation, and Access) have played an integral role in the University’s review of personal tutoring. They have worked with the Digital Education Office to create a  Personal Tutor portal on Blackboard, written an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion guide for Personal Tutors, and created e-training modules for Personal Tutors.

Debt Collection Policy

Ruth and Jason successfully persuaded the university to U-turn on their policy of using students’ bursaries to cover rent arrears. Jason and Ruth sat on the University’s Debt Collection Review Working Group and were able to push forward important changes to ensure fairness and transparency in the University’s debt collection  and short-term loans policies.
